Passenger information: new excel tool IBIS-IP CIS | Rastatt

Luminator is developing a new customer information (CIS) tool as part of the VDV’s IBIS-IP project, thus contributing significantly to the simplification of communication services in public transport.

The control of passenger information systems via Internet protocol (IP)-based communication services offers real added value to developers, operators and passengers. The higher bandwidth enables the transmission of larger data volumes, display of connection and interchange information, and reporting of possible disruptions on the line. The main challenge lies in the detailed use an interpretation of the different data streams. In 2019 a VDV body consisting of transit undertakings and manufacturers of onboard computers was thus formed at the request of the Luminator Technology Group. It assigns all CIS-IP elements and data types to a recommended application, and defines and documents the respective operations.

Assignment by recommendation

The new Excel tool now facilitates coordination between onboard computer and display suppliers and operators. It includes a simply and clearly structured recommendation for use of IBIS-IP customer information service. Besides an overview of the various operations in the CIS, a description in English and German is provided for each element. The latter specifies the data type, including a version history and recommendation for use, including an example. Three versions have hitherto been documented and published by IBIS-IP-CIS. The documents are readily accessible on the VDV website at: www.vdv.de/ip-kom-oev.aspx.
