Passenger information systems for Singapore

Luminator accompanies Singapore into the future

Singapore is getting greener. With the “Go Green” initiative the city state is endeavoring to become as emission-free as possible. For local public transport this means that diesel buses are to be phased out by 2040 in favor of vehicles with an e-drive. Over 300 bus lines are currently operating in Singapore with a total annual ridership of 3.6 million – and many of the vehicles are equipped with proven Luminator technology.

In the past, members of the current Luminator group were already among Singapore’s suppliers. Since 2009 the buses are being converted from flip-dots to multicolor displays. Currently, Luminator is fitting the electric Linkker buses with destination displays and multicolor passenger information systems. “The displays are reliable in operation and easily legible from a distance. The displays have outstanding image quality, and the control units are easy to operate by the driver,” says See Beng Hui, Deputy Director of SMRT Buses. In addition, Luminator provides fast, competent local support.

Singapore is not only technologically oriented to Europe. The city also relies on the expertise of Luminator for the introduction of standards. Through participation in the committees of the VDV, Luminator offers extensive know-how in the design of standards and regulations. Singapore is now implementing the IBIS standard according to European VDV300 specification in its buses. Luminator is also supporting the regulatory authorities in an advisory capacity in the introduction of ITxPT.

Climate change is thus only one of many challenges that Singapore is currently facing. And we at Luminator are proud to help confront them.

Challenges

In order to confront the climate change, Singapore needs high-grade technical passenger information solutions and advisory competence in creating the regulatory requirements.

Solution

Upgradeable components on the basis of moderner technology (hard- and software); support by local service teams; knowledge transfer in the design of uniform interface standards and regulations (ITxPT, VDV300, CIS-IP).

Results

Confident decision-making in the regulatory basis for the long-term expansion of PIS; delivery, operational and support security of future-proof Luminator technologies.

“I would like to thank you sincerely for your support of ST Engineering for projects PT322 and PT337. We had to face many challenges, in particular during the pandemic, and we wouldn’t have managed without your support and commitment. Our customer is delighted with the result, which would not have been possible without hard work on the part of Luminator. I thank you and your team for contributing to the success of our project.”
